Hey, everybody! Sean here with Elite Handyman Services of Pennsylvania. Saturdays are for the DIYers, and today’s DIY tip is all about how to hang a heavy painting or mirror using D hooks.

There are many ways to hang pictures and other items on walls, and the weight of the item you're hanging is crucial in determining the method. For lighter items, simply hammering a nail into the wall and hanging the item with wire works great. However, for heavier items, you need to ensure the weight is evenly dispersed on the drywall to prevent damage.

In this guide, I’ll show you how to use painters tape and a Sharpie to accurately mark where to place your D hooks, ensuring your heavy items are hung securely and centered perfectly.

Supplies You'll Need:

- Painters Tape - https://amzn.to/4cinXLP)

- Tape Measure - https://amzn.to/3VZ3uGi)

- D Rings and Mounting Kit - https://amzn.to/3xAktFy

Steps to Hang Your Heavy Item:

1. Cover the D Rings with Painters Tape:

Place a strip of painters tape over the D rings on the back of your item. Make sure the tape covers the entire D ring.

2. Mark the Centers with a Sharpie:

Use a Sharpie to mark the exact center of each D ring on the tape.

3. Measure the Width and Mark the Center:

Measure the width of your piece and mark the center point on the painters tape. This will help you align your item perfectly on the wall.

4. Remove the Tape and Place It on the Wall:

Carefully remove the tape from the D rings and place it on the wall where you want to hang the item. Make sure the tape is level.

5. Install Drywall Anchors:

Using the marks on the tape, install drywall anchors at the marked points. Double-check with a level to ensure accuracy.

6. Confirm Measurements:

Measure the distance between the centers of the D rings on your item and confirm that your wall marks match.

7. Hang Your Item:

Once everything is in place, hang your item by placing the D rings onto the screws in the drywall anchors.

And there you have it! A quick and easy way to hang a heavy painting or mirror using D hooks.

Pro Tip:

In carpentry, the saying goes, "Measure twice, cut once." Apply this principle here to ensure your marks are accurate before making any holes in your wall.
